Antenna is a transducer transferring RF current to electromagnetic wave and then radiating to the space. Most of antenna polarization is divided into linear polarization and circular polarization as a general rule. Normally, any pair of antenna operation must be set as the same polarization.

Polarization classification	Polarization form	Remarks
Linear polarization	HPOL or VPOL	Most of microwave and butterfly antenna are linear polarization.
Circular polarization	LHCP or RHCP	Satellite antenna are mostly circular polarization.

For instance, two operating antenna must simultaneously satisfy to operate in linear polarization and circular polarization. If these two antennas do not operate in the same polarization, it will cause the poor received signal or do not work. One is HPOL and another is VPOL, which is cross polarization. Cross polarization is mostly used in polarization multiplexing system.
