The X-Y mount antenna is used to track low earth orbit (LEO) and medium earth orbit (MEO) satellites. This type of antenna eliminates the “keyhole” of the traditional pitch/orientation (El/Az) tracking antenna in the zenith direction, cable winding and backlash problems. These advantages of the X/Y antenna design can now be achieved with very small and light components. This cost-effective, hemispheric-covered X-Y mount antenna enables two tracking modes, one for program tracking and the other for automatic tracking, which is single-pulse tracking. It often use for remote sensing.
In general, most customers use program tracking for the X-band and automatic tracking for the S-band. If the customer only selects the X-band to receive LEO and MEO data, the program tracking mode is usually used. And if the customer chooses S/X dual band for different purposes, then the S band will usually use automatic tracking. For example, Antesky offers two different antenna systems for single-pass X-band and S/X dual-band applications depending on the customer’s application. Antesky’s 4.2 m S/X dual band antenna is designed with the X/Y mount to aviod the blind of vertex tacking.
